The Art

 

Art has always been as attractive and pleasant to me as an individual since it opens the hearts of the human beings to creativity and inventiveness. It unfastens our unexpected skills and capabilities which generates the different and unique side of us. I am aware that art does not always offer the exact sense and meaning to such thing, but instead it allows you to discover the essence of a matter. Exploring substance also means traversing your own individuality. The more you become specific to art, the more you grow as an artist. It is a language that we often see every day but not everyone could appreciate it. It takes an open being to unlock the beauty of art which also permits us to impact and influence the people we are surrounded with. It unbolts positivity that extends our imagination to the fullest.

Last December 04, 2020, I went to St. Joseph Cathedral to observe any local art considering that I am from Tagbilaran, Bohol. There was an office beside the church and upon minutes of roaming around the place, I saw a beautiful and astounding local art which is from Rodney Martinez who is passionate about creating art. He always send his wood carvings in the St. Joseph Cathedral therefore its already considered as a local artwork which is always observed in Tagbilaran. I asked the assigned person in the office and she told me that his works are already found all around the world especially his exceptional oil paintings and wood carvings. 

 

I have observed that the “trio” carved on wood has its own definite art elements. It was made last 2017 and its size is 8.5x11. It also uses resin and acrylic as its medium. In a specific manner, I have contemplated diagonal lines into it which are perceived as a delineation of the artwork. As I touched the artwork, I have noticed that its texture is considered rough due to its way of carving and its materials were also innately rough in composition. It has its sublime colors which are orange, green, yellow, and brown that depict the beauty of the three subjects in the art which served as its representation. 

 

 

On the other hand, its art style includes forms of woodworking which resulted in a wooden figure or sculptural ornamentation of a wooden object. The parts of the subject matter which includes the three persons were polished and well ordered. The designs made were not too much. Hence, the medium used in the artwork were resin and acrylic. Resin is a material considered as a combination of compounds that is mostly used in wood carving. Acrylic is also a substance that best works for application in this work of art. 

 

Upon looking and experiencing the artwork, I believe and persuade that this belongs to expressionism due to the colors that depict the subjective emotions within a person. The strokes of carving include the application of the formal elements within an art. The current events of every being and family through music is vividly seen in the “trio” artwork. 

 

The artist himself, Rodney Martinez really believes that following our passion will lead us to success not just by making income but also by reaching genuine blissfulness. The artwork “the trio” was made with the inspiration of everything he sees. His creations were not affected by moods as well, therefore making the “trio” was an inspired work of music and family. The artist made it, to let everyone perceive the significance of being united to our families through the form of music. It was not that difficult for him to create and make a unique and elegant art because it is carved in his heart the beauty of craftsmanship.

Doing this certain art for him according to the assigned staff in the office, was made with the passion of being interconnected and associated with the love of family and even just by the people around us which impacts music and sound as well which is seen in such masterpiece. Microphones, guitar and musical notes are observed which coordinates with the positivity that music offers to us as individuals living in our existence. Most of his works explored the extent of the human experience and constantly redefine what it means to be human, or what the conditions of art itself mean.

 

Upon seeing the artwork, I can really discern that it was made with a happy soul. It was filled with beauty and glamour. This art made me feel that we must appreciate the people we are surrounded with. The movement has its balance wherein the colors and shapes were coordinated. The distribution of the objects, space, texture, etc. 

were deeply ordered. It has its central point since the design was mainly stable.

 

There was an emphasis of the lines to the focused subjects which were the three individuals (trio) which affect the audiences and made it capture their hearts and souls. The area around and between the subjects relates to perspective. There is no negative space since all the spaces were occupied and this is a positive matter for me. There were unique forms in the said art which made it even more inhabited. The elements made its content even more relatable for the audiences. Figure was bright and colorful and full of different hues and shades. The form stands significantly against the conventions elements that usually attract my attention in wood carvings.

 

As a viewer, I can evidently see the massive beauty of such work. The efforts were seen through its smooth carving and the message is relayed properly and appropriately by us the viewers which include the significance of every being through music. I cannot deny that as a viewer, I really got attracted by the artwork. It made me think of buying it which is a positive matter because it just proves how unique and alluring the artwork was. 

 

         The artwork was really aesthetic due to its uniqueness and value but I find it quite small. I just would suggest that the size of the frame must be bigger enough in order to clearly see and view the designs made by the artist. If a certain craft is large, then probably it will be more substantial to see the details and definition of such masterpiece. But other than that, I really find it alluring. To be honest, upon seeing it, I already experienced the message of the artist behind it. It was about the clarity and unity of a family. We can see three people enjoying music, which is one of the main focuses of the artist. It was about the music that affects each one’s whole individuality. 

 

I believe that the artist made such work to transfer a message to everybody that we must all appreciate one's uniqueness. In whatever we do, music is in us to guide us in whatever challenges we go through. As one family, whether blood-related or not, we must carry the concern and care to each one in order to create calm and tranquil relatedness.
